Parallel Channel Estimator and Equalizer for Mobile OFDM Systems

چکیده
Mobile OFDM refers to OFDM systems with fast moving transceivers, in contrast to traditional OFDM systems whose transceivers are stationary or have a low velocity. In this paper, we use the basis expansion model (BEM) to model time-varying OFDM channels. Using different BEM’s, we investigate various architectures to implement the least-squares (LS) channel estimation and its corresponding zero-forcing (ZF) channel equalization. The experimental results show that our implementation for mobile OFDM systems is capable of combatting the time variation of mobile OFDM channels, and more hardware resource utilization is necessary compared with a traditional OFDM design which fails in a time-varying scenario. For mobile OFDM systems, different BEM’s are available for the channel modeling. We observe that the so-called Critically sampled Complex-Exponential BEM (CCEBEM) leads to the most efficient hardware architecture while still maintaining high modeling accuracy.

A Robust OFDM Receiver for DSRC Systems
OFDM PHY has been selected as North American DSRC standard (IEEE 802.11p). In this paper, we present a robust OFDM receiver suitable for DSRC systems. A synchronizer, a one-tap frequency domain equalizer (FDE), a pilot-based phase estimator and a Viterbi decoder mainly compose it. The equalizer uses normalized least-mean-square (NLMS) algorithm to track not only the variation of the DSRC channe...
متن کاملA Frequency-domain Compensation Scheme for IQ-Imbalance in OFDM Receivers
A special pilot pattern across two OFDM symbols is devised for channel estimation in OFDM systems with IQ imbalance at receiver. Based on this pilot pattern, a high-efficiency time-domain (TD) least square (LS) channel estimator is proposed to suppress channel noise by a factor of N/(L+1) in comparison with the frequency-domain LS one in [1] where N and L+1 are the total number of subcarriers a...
متن کاملSynchronization and Channel Estimation in OFDM Systems
This thesis consists of a prologue and six parts that address two aspects of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems: synchronization and channel estimation. For the synchronization aspect, focus is on estimators of time and frequency offsets that exploit the cyclic prefix. For the channel estimation aspect, a concept is presented and analyzed that exploits the f...
متن کاملChannel Estimation in Constant Envelope Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing
Recently, Constant Envelope Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (CE-OFDM) has been considered as a promising transmission scheme for next generation mobile communications and radar applications due to its 0 dB peak to average power ratio (PAPR) and its inherent benefits to mobile transmitters and their power amplifiers. However, the issue of channel estimation in CE-OFDM still needs to b...
متن کاملLow-rank pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation for MIMO-OFDM systems - Vehicular Technology Conference, 2004. VTC2004-Fall. 2004 IEEE 60th
In this paper, we propose the low-rank pilot-symbolaided (PSA) channel estimator for multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems. The group-wise pilot patterns are also proposed for the low-rank channel estimator. We evaluate the performance of the proposed low-rank channel estimator for various mobile channel environments by computer simulation...
